Joining us for an interview is the fantastic Matheus Amado from Farewell for Now.
Hi, how are you?
I’m doing fine. How about yourself?
I’m great! So, how did you get into music?
I used to watch a lot of MTV and VH1 as a kid so I got inspired by bands like Fall Out Boy and Dashboard Confessional. I asked my dad to teach me everything he knows about guitar and after I learned all that I’ve been writing music ever since.
How did ‘Songs from Lonelier Times’ come about?
I’ve always wanted to make a record or an EP that was very raw. Songs from Lonelier Times are two songs that were written in one of the darkest points of my life so I took that opportunity to write straight from the heart and lay out everything that was on my mind. It was also winter in Indiana when the songs were written which is when the seasonal depression starts to kick it, so that helped out a bit.
What were the challenges of making ‘Songs from Lonelier Times’?
I would say the biggest challenge making Songs from Lonelier Times would be not knowing if people were going to like it or not. The songs aren’t commercial whatsoever. I feel like it was especially difficult to release Hollow, Pt. II
because that song is so blunt and raw. I wanted to show people how I felt but it’s hard putting a lot of emotion into a song without sounding “too much.”
What are your plans for 2019?
I will be releasing a 6 song EP this spring and I have a tour coming up in the next few months so look out for that. The new EP is nothing like I’ve done before and I’ve been working on it for over a year now so I am so excited to release it.
